What is the best time of the year to visit Sri Lanka?

Generally, for the south and west, the best time is December through to the end of April and again in July/August. For the east coast, July through to September.

What is the local currency?

The local currency is Sri Lankan Rupees. You can easily change US dollars or UK pound sterling when you arrive in the country and there are plenty of ATMs throughout the island.

What is the electrical supply at the hotel?

We use 13amp square pin plugs, but we can happily provide you with an adaptor if needed.

Is it very wet during the monsoon seasons?

We usually experience sunshine and showers – the rainfall helps cool the temperature, and we only get about 10 days in the whole year when it rains all day long.

Will we come across many mosquitoes?

There are mosquitoes in Sri Lanka. We recommend applying mosquito repellent in the evenings and covering up by wearing light trousers and long sleeved tops.

Are there any golf courses nearby?

There is a mini golf course at Koggala, around 15-minutes’ drive from Kahanda Kanda. For an 18-hole round, you’d need to visit Colombo or Hambantota.

How long does it take to get to Kahanda Kanda from the Colombo Airport?

The journey time from Colombo’s Bandaranaike International Airport is around two hours down the Southern Expressway.

Is it cold at night and will I need a sweater?

No, it’s very unlikely. On average it is roughly 25 degrees at night time, so you do not need any warm clothing.

Is there parking at the hotel?

Yes, we have plenty of secure parking on the hotel premises.

Do you provide accommodation for a driver?

Unfortunately, we do not accommodate drivers or guides, but there are guest houses nearby where they can stay.

Do you accept children at Kahanda Kanda?

We do not accept children at Kahanda Kanda, partly for safety reasons and partly because it is a very calm and peaceful environment.
